Whereas a freelance editorial photographer will be hired for the specific project or period and will be allowed to commercial or fine art photography.

Newspapers and Magazines are the popular places for the editorial photographer to find a job. To help the readers get the grasp of the story or article that is being published, photographs are inserted to provide the necessary explanation or create emotion. As an editorial photographer one must have a complete understanding of the topic of article and also about the background surrounding that particular story that they are involved in.
